The Rebellious Human – World Philosophy Day 2013

Poster and promotional material design for the celebration of the 2013 UNESCO World Philosophy Day, centered around the theme The Rebellious Man (Uporni človek). This annual event, organized by the Slovenian Philosophical Society and the National Commission for UNESCO, brings together leading philosophers, university scholars, and high school students to explore existentialist concepts of freedom, individual revolt, and social critique. The core design challenge was to translate the complex philosophical questions surrounding social engagement and rebellion into a direct, expressive, and locally resonant visual metaphor.

Departing from a literal representation of a (rebellious) human, the visual concept introduces an archetypal symbol: a roaring brown bear. As the largest wild predator in the Slovenian region, the bear acts as an indigenous symbol of nature, while within the context of the theme, it embodies raw, elemental force and untamed defiance. The motif of the roaring bear, paired with a heavy typeface, intensifies the core message. This solution establishes a necessary visual provocation within the academic setting of a philosophical symposium and captures the attention of the wider public.
