The project was co-created by Katarina Mrvar, who is also the author of several of the design motifs.
The Mula project emerged as a natural evolution and tangible response to the environmental campaign Vrečka na vrečko (Bag on Bag). Through this initiative, our studio Lukatarina—in collaboration with the Eco Vitae association and Ecologists Without Borders—actively raised public awareness about consumerism and the excessive use of plastic bags. However, rather than just highlighting the problem and criticizing the status quo, we wanted to take it a step further in the next phase: by offering a concrete, ecologically responsible, and aesthetically refined alternative.
This led to the creation of Mula bags—sustainable, biodegradable shopping bags made from high-quality organic cotton. The project quickly grew into a successful non-profit initiative. Over time, we launched a series of consecutive collections (such as Mulamundus and others), developing a diverse range of custom patterns, illustrations, and typographic motifs. Our "flying Mula" proved that through a thoughtful visual identity, a sustainable everyday product can become both a powerful medium of expression and a popular fashion accessory with a clear ecological conscience.
