The cover design for Mrtva straža (Skeleton Crew), a collection of short stories by the master of horror Stephen King published by Beletrina, is built around a blend of dark atmosphere and narrative fragments found within the book. Rather than focusing on a single scene, the entire illustration functions as a complex visual mosaic.
The visual language utilizes "a drawn collage" technique, intertwining various motifs and iconic highlights from the different stories in the collection. For this project, I chose a comic-like, naive, yet highly expressive drawing style. The raw lines, dramatic contrasts, and intentionally distorted proportions create an uneasy, gritty, and tense atmosphere that instantly immerses the reader into King's signature world of horror and psychological suspense. The collaged composition operates as a visual teaser, sparking curiosity while subtly hinting at the diverse tales hidden inside.
