Hosted in the historic atrium of the Ljubljana City Hall, the exhibition Actions Speak Louder Than Words was a collaborative project between design studio Lukatarina (Luka Mancini & Katarina Mrvar) and Andreja Palatinus from the Eco Vitae association. The main objective was to showcase the environmental challenges of the City Municipality of Ljubljana through an engaging, interactive, and educational spatial narrative.
Moving away from traditional passive displays, we designed a curated path that guided visitors through the atrium, leading them from one distinct installation to the next. In alignment with the exhibition's ecological core, all accompanying information panels were printed directly onto raw OSB wooden boards, giving the space an industrial yet sustainable aesthetic.
The heart of the exhibition lay in its hands-on, interactive elements designed to spark awareness:
Urban Noise pollution: In the Ljubljana's TOP 5 section, we designed a mock-up jukebox. Instead of picking a song, visitors selected buttons to listen to actual audio recordings of noise pollution from the city's most congested locations.
Energy Consumption: Visitors could mount a stationary bicycle and experience firsthand the physical effort required to generate enough electricity to light up a bulb.
The Plight of Bees: A dedicated installation highlighted the threat that chemical pesticides pose to local bee populations.
Plastic Bag Consumption: Another section confronted visitors with the staggering reality and massive scale of single-use plastic bag consumption.
By seamlessly bridging sustainable spatial design, custom typography, and environmental activism, the exhibition successfully transformed complex ecological data into an immersive civic experience, proving that actions indeed speak louder than words.
