Days of Poetry and Wine, 2020

The visual identity for the 2020 edition of the international festival Days of Poetry and Wine was created as a creative collaboration with renowned German illustrator Katrin Menschik. The core challenge and inspiration lay in weaving her charming foundational illustrative elements—a portrait of France Prešeren, a glass of wine, grapes, open books, and poetic verses—into a fresh, dynamic, and cohesive design system.

By combining and rearranging these elements in a hundred different ways, custom cover designs were crafted for the festival's poetry collection series, alongside the overarching visual identity for the event. My key intervention in the illustrations (done with the artist’s permission) was the creative reinterpretation of Slovenia's national poet, France Prešeren. Depicted across three pop-cultural personas—as a king, a rock star, and an internet-style "thug life" character—it introduced a touch of humour and contemporary irony to the identity. Through this playful approach, the historic poet was casually elevated to the status of a true cult legend.

The use of bold, vivid colours and strong typography resulted in a highly distinctive and witty festival identity, implemented across printed posters, social media banners, coasters, and the entire line of poetry book covers.
