This design project was created to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Val 202, the second program of Radio Slovenia, which has been considered one of the most popular and innovative radio stations in the country since its founding in 1972. As the first station to introduce direct interaction with listeners via telephone lines and a relaxed, conversational tone, Val 202 has over the decades become synonymous with dynamic, high-quality coverage of the daily pulse. The primary goal of the project was to create a celebratory visual identity that reflects this long-standing tradition while emphasizing the modern, urban, and ever-evolving character of the station.
The visual concept of the entire composition stems from a simple premise—the audio waveform graph, which directly symbolizes the very name of the radio station (Val meaning Wave). The entire format is filled with multi-colored, interlocking sound waves that serve as a dynamic graphic framework. Within this movement, diverse elements are layered to illustrate the exceptionally wide and rich spectrum of Val 202’s programming. The vibrant colors and energetic lines visually connect all the core pillars of the station: from sports, cultural content, and up-to-the-minute daily news, to their signature, carefully curated music selection.
