

Ljubljana Sound Point is an interactive digital exhibition designed to raise awareness about noise pollution in the urban environment. Instead of a traditional exhibition setup with printed panels, I proposed developing a freestanding interactive touchscreen installation with integrated speakers, allowing visitors to explore different aspects of Ljubljana’s soundscape through an engaging digital experience.
The project combined user interface design, visual communication, and the creation of interactive content. Through an intuitive navigation system, visitors could explore several thematic sections.
Ljubljana Jukebox presented a selection of evergreen songs connected with Ljubljana, while Ljubljana Rhythm Machine allowed users to create their own beats by combining recorded fragments of sounds and noises from the city.
The central part of the exhibition was the City Noise Map, an interactive map that enabled visitors to explore noise levels at different locations across Ljubljana. Users could also check the noise exposure of their own surroundings by entering a specific address.
The Sounds of Ljubljana section presented a sound map of the city, where visitors could select different locations and listen to field recordings captured at those places. The Decibel Scale provided an experiential understanding of different levels of loudness – from quiet environments to highly noisy surroundings – by allowing users to adjust a slider and listen through speakers or headphones.
The opening screen also included access to additional information about sound legislation, the basics of acoustics, decibels, and the impact of noise on people and the urban environment.
The interactive station was installed for several years in the entrance hall of Ljubljana City Hall, where it served as an educational tool for citizens and visitors. It was also used by tourist guides as an interactive presentation tool for introducing different aspects of the city. Over time, the installation was expanded with additional Ljubljana-related content.
